Z-Type

Weather the new Great Depression with a car from the last Great Depression. When this rolled off the production line in 1937, minorities and women knew their place. It was the world's fastest automobile. Now it's the world's most expensive second-hand automobile. One of only 10 ever made, the Z-Type is a car you can really enjoy sitting in, surrounded by armed guards, too terrified to actually drive it anywhere.
Legendary Motorsport description.

The Truffade Z-Type is a vintage two-door grand tourer appearing in Grand Theft Auto V and Online.

The Z-Type has appeared throughout the Grand Theft Auto series, returning from the 2D Universe where it also assumed the design of a vintage grand tourer.

Description

[edit | edit source]

The Z-Type is a vintage luxury car which does not naturally spawn in the State of San Andreas. According to Devin Weston and the Legendary Motorsport website, only ten Z-Types were manufactured, making it an exceedingly rare car. The $10,000,000 price tag in Grand Theft Auto V reflects this, being the most expensive single vehicle in the game, though the price drops significantly in Grand Theft Auto Online, dropping to a comparatively modest $950,000.

Influence

[edit | edit source]

Like its 2D Universe counterpart, the Z-Type is also primarily influenced by the 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, with some influence from the Bugatti Type 51 Dubos, mainly seen in the greenhouse area. The Z-Type takes major influence from the Delahaye 135, more specifically the 1936 Delahaye 135 Competition Court Teardrop Coupé, seen in the front fascia, especially in the headlights and chrome details on the fenders. Some of the front fascia as well as the secondary paint follow a similar pattern to the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 model, the 1939–1943 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS Spider. The rear wheel cover seems to be borrowed from either the Bugatti Type 57S/SC Atalante or the 1937 Type 57SC Gangloff Drop Head Coupé, while the double exhaust setup is similar to the Volkswagen Beetle. Some additional styling seems to be taken from the Delahaye 145 V12 Coupé Chapron, 1937 Delage D8 120SS Aerodynamic Coupé and Talbot Lago T150C Special Teardrop Coupé.

Design

[edit | edit source]

The Z-Type, as it carries similar influences from its 2D Universe counterpart, continues being depicted as a sleek classic coupe with a long front and curved profile. The car makes heavy use of chrime trim pieces, with chrome lining the front fenders, grille, headlights, and windows. The front end consists of a chrome slanted grille, featuring two circular lamps besides it. The rear end features a unique circular boot with the chrome details and badge, which serves as storage for a spare tyre.

The interior of the Z-Type uses the "B-type" interior type, shared with other vintage luxury vehicles like the Roosevelt and its Valor variant. Being a classic 1930s sports car, the interior of the Z-Type makes use of wooden panelling for the dashboard and rear section, as well as wooden trimming on the inner door panels. Part of the driver-side dashboard contains a steel plate surrounding the main gauges. The passenger side contains a glovebox, with the Truffade logo on the bottom-right corner of the same. Leather stitching can be seen on the door trims and part of the inner door panels.

The vehicle is painted with a primary colour on the body and the secondary colour on the curvatures of the bonnet area, rear fenders and lower rear. The car shares the same rim design as the JB 700, being a derivative of the "Wired" lowrider rims available in Los Santos Customs.

Performance

[edit | edit source]

Performance of the Z-Type remains similar to its previous iteration. Speed is its strong suit — the massive V12 engine is capable of powering the vehicle up to an impressive top speed of just over 126 mph, narrowly outperforming the Monroe and the Adder. This previously made it the fastest car among those included in the game at launch, and it remained the fastest of its class for a significant period of time.

The car handles as one would expect from a large, classic grand tourer, being able to calmly accelerate and easily weave through light traffic. Due to its poor weight distribution and soft suspension, cornering ability is rather poor at high speeds. It is prone to oversteer, leading to sudden and unexpected spin-outs, and counter-steering is extremely difficult. Despite its outstanding straight-line performance, these traits make the Z-Type mostly unsuitable for Sports Classic racing.

The vehicle is powered by a V12 engine with single-overhead camshafts and 6 double-barrel carburetors. It is coupled to a 4-speed gearbox, in a front-mid engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
