Real World Events
[edit | edit source]- Grand Theft Auto V is initially released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17.
- Grand Theft Auto Online is initially released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 1.
- The Beach Bum Update, the Deathmatch & Race Creators Update, the Capture Update, and the Holiday Gifts update were added to Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. All of them were free; however, the Holiday Gifts content was only available for a limited time. Furthermore, the Beach Bum Update content is no longer free as of The High Life Update.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released for mobile devices, with the iOS version being released on December 12, and the Android version being released on December 19.

- September 3: The unnamed private investigator is locked at the Sunnyside Asylum.[5][6]
- The events of Grand Theft Auto 2 take place around this year according to evidence from the official website, contradicting other evidence that says it take place around 1999.[7][8]
- The J-Lab is built in Funabashi, Anywhere City, around this time.[9]
- Zaibatsu's Zoom Zoom drug is legalized around this time.[10]
- The events of the Downtown District missions take place.
- Claude Speed helps the Yakuza inside man Hiroshi escape the police after he illegally transferred money to Johnny Zoo's bank account.
- The Loonies' Happy Gas tanks at the Sunnyside Asylum are destroyed by Claude Speed under orders of Johnny Zoo.
- Gama Rei escapes the hitmen sent by the Loonies with the help of Claude Speed.
- A traitor of the Yakuza is killed by Claude Speed for selling Johnny Zoo's information to the Zaibatsu Corporation.

- Several Rednecks are burned to death by Claude Speed under orders of Red Valdez, by using a Fire Truck attached with a stolen SRS Flamethrower.
- The SRS Clone Test Center is destroyed by Claude Speed under orders of Red Valdez.

- A gang war between the Russian Mafia and the Krishnas is triggered by Claude Speed under orders of Uno Carb.

- A group of civilians are kidnapped by Claude Speed and turned into hot dog meat by the Russian Mafia at the R. S. & L. Bows Meat Processing Plant.

- The events of Grand Theft Auto Online prior to the Gunrunning update take place in late spring/early summer.[12]
- The GTA Online Protagonist flies to Los Santos and meets Lamar Davis.

- A drug deal between Trevor Philips and an unknown buyer turns out to be an ambush by DOA agents.

- Benny's Original Motor Works is established south of the Olympic Freeway in Strawberry.
- The GTA Online Protagonist and their associates start a war between the Los Santos Vagos and the Ballas.

- Chad Mulligan is either killed or spared.
- Michael De Santa is hired by Solomon Richards as an executive producer for Meltdown.
- Javier Madrazo is killed by Trevor Philips. Patricia Madrazo is kidnapped by Trevor, forcing him and Michael De Santa into hiding.

- A Merryweather Cargo Plane is hijacked and crashes into the Alamo Sea.
- Elwood, Walton and Wynn O'Neil are killed by Michael De Santa and Franklin Clinton.

- A Merryweather train is hijacked and crashed into another locomotive, causing both to derail.
- A neurotoxin is stolen from Humane Labs and Research. Patricia Madrazo is returned to her husband by Trevor Philips.
- Floyd Hebert and Debra are presumably killed off-screen by Trevor Philips.
- The Vanilla Unicorn strip club is taken over by Trevor Philips and is used to plan the Union Depository heist.
- A shootout occurs at the Ludendorff Church and Cemetery, leaving several Triads dead. Michael De Santa is kidnapped by the surviving Triads.
- Franklin Clinton, Lamar Davis, and Trevor Philips are screwed out of a payday by Devin Weston.
- Michael De Santa is rescued from the Triads by Franklin Clinton.
- Rocco Pelosi and Gianni are killed in a car chase by Michael De Santa.

- Lamar Davis is sold out to the Ballas by Stretch, but is rescued by Franklin Clinton, Michael De Santa, and Trevor Philips.
- The movie Meltdown is produced by Richards Majestic Productions.
- The Union Depository is robbed, and a large percentage of LSPD and NOOSE personnel or Merryweather soldiers (depending on the approach) are killed in Downtown Los Santos.
- Hundreds of FIB agents and Merryweather soldiers are wiped out in an ambush set up by Franklin Clinton, Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips, Lester Crest and Lamar Davis.
- Harold "Stretch" Joseph is killed in a gang shootout by Michael De Santa.
- Wei Cheng is killed by Franklin Clinton while leaving the Pacific Bluffs Country Club.
- Steve Haines is assassinated by Trevor Philips while filming for his television series.
