The automobile manufacturer that pioneered the great American business model of low-quality mass production.
—Description at Bawsaq.com.

Vapid Motor Company, commonly known as Vapid, is an American automotive manufacturer appearing in the HD Universe of the Grand Theft Auto series.

Description

[edit | edit source]

Vapid is known to produce both automobiles and commercial vehicles. In Grand Theft Auto V, the automaker is listed on the BAWSAQ. Its stock plummets after Franklin Clinton is hired by Lester Crest to assassinate venture capitalist Isaac Penny, who aims to secure a controlling stake in Vapid.

Influence

[edit | edit source]

Vapid is heavily based on the Ford Motor Company. In parody of Ford's famous blue oval badge, Vapid's logo is a red oval badge, with a similar font. The description of Vapid 'pioneering the great American business model of low-quality mass production' alludes to Ford, an early pioneer of mass production in the automobile industry. Additionally, the word 'vapid' means 'dull', which may reference Ford's nature as a producer of commonplace and affordable vehicles.

Even though Vapid is primarily inspired by Ford, there are numerous exceptions in its vehicle catalogue. Examples include the Huntley Sport, which resembles a Land Rover; the Bobcat and Speedo, which are similar to Chevrolet models; the second-generation Contender, which is based on a Toyota; and the Benson, which is inspired by an International truck.

Locations

[edit | edit source]
Main article: Vapid of Los Santos

There is a Vapid of Los Santos dealership in Downtown Los Santos. A garage is located in the building and can be bought by Trevor Philips. Mors Mutual Insurance use the dealership as a depot in Grand Theft Auto Online. Vapid also operated an aircraft division, and formerly owned an aircraft hangar in Grapeseed, which can also be bought by Trevor Philips.

As seen in the August 2026 GTA VI leaks, a Vapid dealership is due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, located in the Southside neighborhood of Vice City. [1]

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • The Fugitive, despite being manufactured by Cheval, has mistakenly been referred to as a "Vapid Fugitive" on the website since the 1.06 update. A Newswire article from December 23rd, 2013 also refers to it under this name[2]. In a similar vein, the Liberator was mistakenly labelled as a "Vulcar Liberator" in pre-race setup menus.
  • An exclusive Vapid T-shirt was available for players who completed any five of the available Freemode Events or Freemode Challenges during the Freemode Events Social Club Weekend[3].
  • The Youga Classic, despite being manufactured by Bravado, was erroneously listed as a Vapid vehicle on the Southern San Andreas Super Autos website.
  • The vehicle internally named felino in Max Payne 3 reuses its interior texture from Bobcat. Leftover mentions of bobcat and Vapid logos on its floor mats are still present in its final interior texture, although with compressed quality and not intended to be visible by the player.
