Foundational Work
JGI’s scientific contributions reverberates over time to enable many discoveries. The Soybean genome shown is one example — since the original reference genome, the entire project has directly impacted over 5,000 unique studies. These works have gone on to influence over 100,000 further studies.

Inaugural Critical Minerals & Materials Portfolio Announced

This year the JGI and the Molecular Foundry launched a joint call for their collaborative user program. This portfolio of research proposals integrates genomics with nanoscale science, all aimed at accelerating discoveries and developing transformative bio-based technologies involving critical minerals and materials.

JGI releases FY25 Progress Report

This year, the JGI served a record number of primary users — 2,627 researchers around the world had active proposals with us, along with more than 17,000 researchers who made use of our data. As of the end of fiscal year 2025, we've completed a total of 349,105 projects.

All the sampling activities in Antarctica have been performed in the frame of italian expeditions of the Italian National Program for Antarctic Researches (PNRA),  funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research; all specimens collected and fungi isolated are preserved in the Culture Collection of Fungi from Extreme Environment, the Italian National Antarctic Museum (MNA-CCFEE).
