Impressive coincidence, and a nice explanation of a difficult subject (well, it is to me).
Just today I found the site (https://linuxtv.org/downloads/v4l-dvb-apis/ch02s06.html) after wikipedia let me down when it didn't list the transfer function for SMPTE rp 431-2.
Although it didn't appear to be mentioned, the itu, just a few months ago, ratified rec2100 (which is rec2020 + 1080p + hdr + pq/hlg transfer functions --- all in all, a standard that is more backwards compatible....excepting the obscenely massive color space coverage!).
