Isn't MariaDB a fork of mysql? So Oracle is a copyright holder of MariaDB. (I would be happy to be wrong...)

Oracle would threaten a GPL suit to get them to buy a commercial license, not force GPL proliferation. From that angle, saying you work with MariaDB should remove the larger part of the looming threat.
