I have, repeatedly, by multiple managers at multiple levels.

There is even some sense to it.
Top posting with no trimming gives the most recent (and hopefully most relavent and correct) information immediatly with no scrolling, but the rest of the thread is available if they want/need more information.

For management that gets far too much e-mail and has far too many things to try and get done, this is valuable.

However, when having a technical conversation with someone, trimming irrelevant (or incorrect) sections out, and replying point to point, interspersed so that the context of the reply is clear, can be incredibly valuable.

The key is figuring out what audience you are dealing with and formatting the message appropriately.
