Back-to-School events support foster families across Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — As students head back to the classroom, communities across Florida are helping foster children start the school year with confidence.

Special back-to-school events are providing foster families with school supplies, resources and a chance to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of caring for children in foster care.

“It helps us out tremendously because we’re always super busy,” said foster parent Latisha Williams. The events bring together foster parents, child advocates and community partners to make sure children have the essentials they need for a successful school year. Families can pick up backpacks, school supplies and other items often found on classroom supply lists. Click here to read more of the story.

Telemundo news producer Ariana Figueroa interviewed Gabriella Colon (Cruz), Independent Living case manager at Family Partnerships, for the show, discussing the Step into Success Program for youth. In this special program, Telemundo discusses the foster care system in Florida and how becoming a foster parent can change a child’s life. Hometown News Story – Task force leads effort to educate parents

The Child Abuse Prevention Task Force hosted several awareness events throughout April, culminating in an awards banquet at Hilton Melbourne Rialto Place on April 30.

From painting blue manicures to pinwheel plantings, a family-friendly 5K and a proclamation reading, Family Partnerships of Central Florida has had a busy month.

Davine Vincent, community services supervisor at Family Partnerships of Central Florida and chair of the Child Abuse Prevention Task Force, has worked closely with families across Brevard County, focusing on prevention and access to support services. Click here to read the full story.
