Live means now. When someone reports a bird, it appears on the map immediately. You can assume it is still there. Other users confirm on site whether it is still around or already gone. fink shows you where something is right now, not where something used to be. Locations of rare and protected species are blurred automatically.

FinkDetector is our identification system. You upload a photo or answer a few quick questions. It suggests the most likely species and tells you how confident it is. The decision stays with you.

Yes, in beta. Selected users are currently testing our sound identification, specialised in the birds of Europe and Germany. Calls and songs to listen to are on the way.

Yes. Over 900 European species have their own illustrations. The section “From all over the world” holds around 10,000 further species from every continent. So you fill your atlas on holiday and while travelling too.

Rare species need a proof photo until your trust level reaches the top tier. Photo, location and time are checked for plausibility. The community can confirm or question sightings. We detect faked locations and AI photos. Cheaters are out of the contest and, if it happens again, out of the app. Every suspension is decided by a human.

Every new user tries fink Pro free for 7 days. After that Standard costs €3.99 per month or €34.99 per year. Pro costs €6.99 per month or €64.99 per year. Standard is the whole app. Pro adds, among other things, your own guilds, the bird globe of other birders and the jury role in photo contests. All details are in the app.

The subscription runs through the App Store or Google Play and is cancelled there as well. Deleting your account does not end the subscription.

Each of these apps does one thing very well. ornitho is the scientific reporting platform, eBird the checklist database, Merlin the identification tool. fink is the shared experience on top: live map, community, your atlas.

Your data is stored on servers in Frankfurt and is never sold. We show no ads. Your photos remain yours, always with credit. They appear on our social media channels only with your consent. Locations of rare species are blurred automatically.

The bird atlas works offline. Live map, community and identification need an internet connection. Wherever possible, we add further offline features.
